Dust Off Your Camping Gear

Everyone is eager to start their camping season once the warmer weather approaches. Prepare your RV or open up your tent and get ready to go on an adventure! The adventure doesn't have to be far; you can make the trip to the great outdoors right in your very own backyard if you want! Make a fire, find somewhere to have a picnic, go fishing or even find somewhere to canoe. The long weekend is the perfect time to get a little adventurous while getting outside to appreciate the great outdoors.

What goes better together than warm weather, a long weekend and a hike? The answer is absolutely nothing! Ontario has so many amazing hiking trails and each of them showcase unique landmarks (and Instagram-able opportunities). Here are a few of our favourite hikes that are within Niagara or close to it:

  • Albion Falls - Hamilton, ON
  • Ball's Falls - Lincoln, ON
  • Beamer Falls - Grimsby, ON
  • Decew Falls - Thorold, ON
  • Devil's Punch Bowl - Stoney Creek, ON
  • Dundas Valley Trail - Dundas, ON

Start Gardening

If you're looking to get a head start on expanding your green-thumb this year, the Victoria Day long weekend is the perfect time to get started! Whether you're growing vegetables or flowers, the soil is waiting to be turned and the plants are waiting to be planted. You can even start a mini-garden in your RV with mobile planters and hanging baskets! Consider growing smaller items like herbs, small flowers, small plants and succulents. This is a great way to save space in your spice drawer while adding natural beauty to your RV decor.

Go to a Farmer's Market

As the weather continues to get warmer, local produce starts to flourish. A fun outing for this long weekend is to attend a local Farmer's Market to score some amazing local items. Not only are there fruits and vegetables available, but there is often unique food, furniture and clothing items available that would make great additions to your RV! This past year has been very hard on small businesses, so attending local Farmer's Markets is a great way to support those in your community.

Have a Barbecue

There's nothing that screams long weekend more than a good old-fashioned barbecue. Get the hotdogs and hamburgers out and start cooking! Enjoy the sunshine and the company of your family while snacking on some tasty treats. Plus, this activity is even better if you're camping. Have the barbecue over the fire to make things interesting and to conserve your propane for the RV. Get the kids in on the fun by helping them roast hotdogs over the fire. You can even try out new hotdog shapes like the spider-dog. Who said you can't have fun with your food and eat it too?
