Publish Date: May 26, 2020 Author: Ashley Rego Category: Tips

With the events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects it’s had on us globally, international travel is going to be one of the most affected areas when it comes to the “new normal”. With air travel restrictions, people will be looking for other ways to vacation – RVing being one of them!

If you’re new to the RV world and you have no idea where to start, we’re here to help. We’ve compiled a few tips to follow when you begin looking into buying an RV.

Do Your Research!

It’s important to understand what the RV lifestyle is all about. It’s more than just hooking up a trailer, or starting up your motorhome and hitting the road. It’s important to get a glimpse of what RVing is all about. Is it something you see yourself doing long-term? Is it something you think you’ll be able to maintain? There are several ways you can research the RV lifestyle. YouTube videos are a great way to sit down for an hour and see how other RVers are doing it, what advice they have and what tips they can share for getting into the RV world. There are plenty of podcasts, online videos, blogs and even television shows that share some great tips and ideas of what the RV world has to offer.

Education 101

Educating yourself is important to understand how an RV will fit into your life. It’s important that when you begin your research for your RV that you know the different types of RV’s, models, floor plans, and even brands/manufacturers. These points will help you to determine what unit to start looking for. Looking for an RV is much like looking for a vehicle and a home all in one. You want to make sure it suits your family needs, makes you feel at home, but also make sure it’s something you can drive, tow and regularly service and maintain.

Determine What You Want

Make sure you know what you want before getting to deep into your purchase process. Look online to see what type of unit you want. Is it a towable or motorhome? Do you want a trailer, fifth wheel or toy hauler? Do you know how much your vehicle can tow or will you need to invest in a new vehicle as well? If you go the motorhome route, which class are you most comfortable driving? Is it A class, B class or C class? Do you prefer diesel or gas? Make sure you know the differences in the units and determine which suits your lifestyle. You’ll also be faced with the decision to determine whether or not you want a new or pre-owned unit. What can you afford? Look at all your options. Sometimes you can find some really great deals on pre-owned units. Or maybe you prefer something brand new. Make sure to look at all your options to determine what you want and how it will suit your needs and your wants. And that’s just the base level of things to look for in your unit. There are many other factors to consider as well.

Talk To An Expert

One of the best ways to get information about the different types of RV’s and get the best recommendations is to ask the experts. An RV Sales Specialist is there to assist you in every step of the process. They can help answer all of your questions and give you a good idea about not only the type of unit to buy, but they can work with you on your options in terms of budget, financing and provide you with information specifics on the unit. The best part is, they can take you through different units and show you the floor plans that are available. It allows you to get an idea of what being in an RV feels like, and see how it will suit your family and your lifestyle.
